Consumer Narrative

On XX/XX/2022 I received a letter from XXXX XXXX XXXX stating that I owed them money for opening account # with a fraudulent check in the amount of {$500.00}, demanding that I pay this money back to them in addition to a {$10.00} fee. I contacted them by phone immediately, and was told that someone opened an account in my name. I explained that I never heard of that bank, nor had I ever opened an account with this bank. I asked what recourse I might have. They said I should write them a letter via email, as well as report it to FTC. They also stated that they had already flagged said account for Fraud. I reported it to FTC. I called the credit reporting agencies, asked for copies of my report and had my account flagged by the 3 credit unions. I also sent copies of the letter I received from them to XXXX XXXX XXXX via email. Once again I explained I had never heard of their bank, and did not open this account. I also told them that had they done their due diligence this never would have happened because several years ago my name had been found on the XXXX XXXX therefore my credit had been locked for years. Had they actually attempted to do a credit report before allowing someone to open an account in my name they would have found that the report was locked. I received a response from XXXX XXXX XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX. XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, New York XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX ext. XXXX XXXX # : XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX stated that she had forwarded this information to their Internal Fraud Department for processing. On XX/XX/XXXX I wrote her again requesting that they close this fraudulent account and send me a letter confirming that this account is not mine, and that I am not liable for this account. I also asked that it be removed from my credit report. She replied, " The fraud department will be providing the letter. I have sent this on to them. I do not have an estimated timeframe for exactly when that will occur ''. I have yet to receive any such notice, and continue to receive notices from this bank stating the account continues to be overdrawn with a negative balance, and that the account will be closed at XXXX dats, They state that the outstanding balance will be reported to a collection agency and the appropriate credit reporting agencies. I would like this account closed immediately. I would like to have a letter acknowledging that this is a fraudulent account for which I am not liable, and I would like assurance that this will not be placed on credit report. Can you please assist me?
