On XX/XX/XXXX, I made an appointment with a cleaning service via their website for a 9 am cleaning appointment on XX/XX/XXXX. The total was {$320.00}. The next morning ( XX/XX/XXXX ) at XXXX XXXX, the company calls me to say they can not complete the service at the price their website charged me. I was told I need to pay a new amount 24 % higher than the original quote. The new price was $ XXXX. I said I could not afford that and was unable to move forward. I was then told that there is a cancellation fee for canceling within XXXX hours. I told them it was not within XXXX hours ( it was now XXXX XXXX and the appointment was for XXXX XXXX the next day ). He said it didnt matter, if I didnt pay him the new {$400.00} fee I would have to pay him the {$75.00} fee. He would not honor the service I originally purchased. We hung up. 30 mins later, once it was within the XXXX hour window I received a confirmation via email that my appointment was finally cancelled by the owner, the only person with access to cancel the appointment. I then received a receipt for {$75.00} cancellation fee via email. I disputed the transaction with Capital One as my request to cancel was clearly outside of the XXXX hour window. And the terms on the merchants website state only that cancellations must be requested more than XXXX hours in advance. It does not specify in the terms how those requests must be submitted. I lost my dispute with Capital One because ( XXXX ) I was informed about the cancellation fee, even though it didnt apply to my timeline and ( XXXX ) because my cancellation request needed to be made in writing according to the owner, although that is not stated in the terms. I am writing CFPB in the hopes that I can have the rules applied fairly to this purchase and dispute. There were no services rendered because the company would not honor the original purchase. They cancelled my online purchase for {$320.00}, replaced it with an authorized {$400.00} one and put me in the position to have to cancel that unauthorized choice.
