Consumer Narrative
On XX/XX/XXXX I went into XXXX XXXX to apply for an home equity line. The bank rep pulled our credit basically asked us why our credit scores were so low. To my surprise he said I had a XXXX. I had just checked my credit before going to the bank and knew I had a score in the high 600, s. The bank Rep. then questioned us about two late payments on a car loan we had paid off back in XXXX. He said he had to put a reason for the late payments on the loan application. This raised a red flag for me since the late payments were from XXXX, we paid the loan off in full and the account wasn't showing up on my credit report anymore because the account was paid off almost ten years ago. I shared my concerns about the inaccuracies in my credit report and score with the bank and they told me to call Equifax. I reached out to Equifax the following week once I received the Credit Score Disclosure in the mail for the bank. The key factors listed for the low score was number of accounts with delinquency and time since delinquency is too recent or unknown. I called Equifax on XX/XX/XXXX to find out why this was showing on my credit report. The representative at Equifax reviewed my report and assured me that I did not have any delinquencies showing on my credit report. The rep could not explain why my score was XXXX nor why the delinquencies were showing on my credit report. He suggested I find a different lender for my HELOC. On XX/XX/XXXX I paid XXXX to pull all three credit reports and my scores came back as a XXXX with Equifax, XXXX with XXXX and XXXX with XXXX. I then called Equifax back and asked to speak with a supervisor. I explained my concerns about the inaccurate reporting on my credit. She checked my credit file again assured me that I did not have any delinquencies on my credit file. I kept pushing the issue of why there was such a big difference in the score the bank pulled and the score I paid for. I explained that I would end up paying a higher interest rate for my loan based a score of XXXX, instead of XXXX and that I was going to report this issue. She then said that they recently had some IT/coding issues at Equifax that caused inaccurate score reporting. She assured me the issue had been resolved and told me to have the lender pull my score again. I did as she suggested and the score still came back as a XXXX. My score was also negatively affected by the second hard inquiry when the supervisor at Equifax promised it would not be affected negatively because it was the same lender pulling the report.
