I opened my savings account with Wells Fargo in XXXX and have used it since. I moved to XXXX in XXXX, but left the account open to use on my trips to the US, with the intention to have it for when we retire and come back to the US. On XX/XX/XXXX I went into a Wells Fargo branch to make a deposit. They informed me that the account was due to be closed, since I have a foreign address. Since I have a permanent address in the US, this should have been easy, but they would not let me change the address. Finally on XX/XX/XXXX I updated my account with my US address. I call their Customer Service to make sure that the account was now fine and that it would not be closed. Shortly afterwards we received a letter asking for a W-8BEN, since my husband is a foreign national. We filled this in and sent it back the end of XXXX. Wtihout notification they closed out account on XX/XX/XXXX. This has caused us major problems, with my husband due to retire in the near future, since we need an account to prepare for our move back. I registered a complaint with Wells Fargo on XX/XX/XXXX. The case no. is XXXX. They said they needed approx. 12 working days to respond. I have not heard anything back from then. On XX/XX/XXXX Wells Fargo wrote again requesting for the Form W-8BEN even though they closed out the account.
