Consumer Narrative
On XX/XX/2022 I listed furniture on XXXX XXXX, buyer contacted me, wanted to buy and opted to pay me {$500.00} via zelle. Got email from Zelle saying they had the funds on hold as my checking account was not a business account and buyer had to send me {$350.00} to upgrade my account to business, then I had to send back {$350.00} to buyer and show the proof, then Zelle would release {$850.00} back to me. Then Zelle sent email that buyer 's account was charged {$350.00} in duplicate and Zelle could not refund him the {$350.00} as it was already in its system and could not reverse so asked me to send additional {$350.00} and they would refund me {$1200.00}. Otherwise they would not be able to release the funds. Then Zelle asked for {$700.00} for a Certificate Fee which would also be refunded to me. My bank stopped that payment, fortunately. Yes I fell for a scam to my horror for the first time in my life. As it's Zelle the {$700.00} ( $ XXXX ) my bank is unable to recover the funds. Is there anything that Zelle can be responsible for in this situation. I believed the emails were actually coming from Zelle. Thank you.
