Wells Fargo sent me a bunch of confirmation emails thanking me for creating my account on XX/XX/2022. I never tried to open an account with Wells Fargo, and have never had any kind of business relationship with them. I called the bank and they instructed me that they were probably phishing emails and gave me an address to forward them to so their phishing team could look at them. It was not phishing, they had in fact opened an account in my name. I was able to get them to close the account, but it seems to me that the process they use to verify identity when opening a new account is severely lacking. Given their history of XXXX when opening accounts, I think there needs to be a thorough review of their account creation procedure, as it is now far too easy for someone to open an account in someone else 's name.
