Consumer Narrative
Was encouraged by loan servicer, Nelnet, to enter into a spousal consolidation loan in XXXX. In XXXX the PSLF program was created, and while I have worked for a qualifying employer for the past 17 years, my loans are not eligible for PSLF because my ex-spouse does not qualify and there is no mechanism to de-consolidate our joint loans into direct loans that would allow me to qualify for the program. I have spent years getting inaccurate and inconsistent information about my eligibility and how to access the program. I have now paid significantly more than my original loan balance and can not get any of what should be qualifying payments applied to PSLF.
