I have had my phone number for 15 years and only my wife and I pay for this. Neither my wife nor I have anything to do with the debt. I have an adult family member with the same last name who is XXXX and XXXX kept dinging them {$40.00} per month even though full bill and interest was all paid. This complaint is not about that as that is the family member 's issue. The account was sent to collections at United Collection Bureau. The total amount of ~ {$400.00} for this family member was sent to them on the XX/XX/XXXX of the month saying it was the XXXX or XXXX. Then they offered pay terms if delivered back and received by the XXXX of the month. It's a bit hard to do that when they get it then. Again, that is not the issue. The next month, in XXXX, the family member ( not my wife or I ) got it on the XXXX or XXXX for payment on the XXXX. They said you could go online to pay. This family member does not have the money so I went online to pay for it. Options were put in a bank account number ( not likely given XXXX XXXX reputation ) or pay with a credit card. I entered in my credit card information ( and again, am not associated or a cosigner for the original debt ). It wanted my phone number so I refused. It would not go through. So, I begrudgingly put in my phone number, but it was my XXXX number which very few people have. I pressed pay again and it refused. The Collection agency called within a week on that number but wouldn't talk to me but the family member. The family member called back and they said they don't take credit card payments ( then why do they offer it ). The complaint I have is that they took my phone number and put it in their system when the phone number said it was only needed for processing a payment. This is false representation. I then received at least 3 phone calls ( XXXX, XXXX, XX/XX/20 ) from XXXX even though they knew after the first one I was not the party whom collection happened. My phone number in question has been registered on the do not call registry. Thus, this is a violation as I have no business with them ( since they refused payment ) and the number is on that list. I would like full penalty payments to apply. Misrepresentation of collection of data and violation by calling a number on the XXXX list when there is no debt by me or my wife ( the owner 's of the phone number ).
