On XX/XX/2022, I received an alert that my score had plummeted a significant amount. Upon reaching out to the major credit bureaus, I was received by their automated answering machines which both hung up the line several times. Upon finally getting to an actual live agent ( with Experian ) after trying for about 45 minutes to 1 hour, I explained to them that my credit score had decreased by about 50 points in one day even though I had no outstanding debts and my student loans had been paid off in full. They then brought my attention to the fact that there was still one account that was potentially still negatively impacting my credit score. It was an account that had been paid off and closed for about 2 years. Furthermore, at the time at which I had paid off this account I was told that it would be closed and would no longer be a factor in my credit report. Therefore, I proceeded with that information in mind. After explaining this situation to the agent I had finally been able to reach, they essentially told me their was absolutely nothing they could do for me except connect me with a credit monitoring agency which charges XXXX $ /month for their services which I can not afford.
