Consumer Narrative
In XXXX of XXXX, I became a victim of identity theft. Someone attempted to file a claim for unemployment. I was notified by my employer that this happened. I was provided information to take the necessary steps to protect my personal information by placing fraud alerts on all 3 of my credit reports. 2 of the alerts expired in XXXX of XXXX and one expires in XX/XX/XXXX. Over the course of the last year, there have been multiple inquiries on my credit report. I have been only contacted once to confirm that it was in fact me applying for credit or financing. That call to me was made in XXXX of XXXX by XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX when I purchased a new vehicle. Other than that none of the credit bureaus have contacted me. I called XXXX this morning because I received an email from XXXX of my creditors that XXXX mistakenly check my credit for a XXXX which caused a hard inquiry on my credit report. It was removed once it was discovered. I then went to look at my credit reports to make sure that there were no other mistakes showing up. There are a number of inquiries on my credit report. My credit report is supposed to be frozen and there is a fraud alert that is valid until XX/XX/XXXX. I called XXXX and the Rep that I spoke to could not explain why anyone was given access to my credit report without confirming that it was in fact me and how anyone was getting access to my report when it is frozen. The Rep agreed that someone should be calling me to confirm my identity but could not explain why that never happened. She then advised that I had to submit a dispute in writing to have it investigated. I can not understand how XXXX and the other bureaus see an alert and/or freeze and continue to not honor it and why I have to take these steps when access should have never been given without my consent, to begin with. XXXX also checked my credit without my permission and removed the inquiry but I was told that can not be done in this situation. It is unacceptable. The freeze and the alerts are supposed to protect me and stop people from accessing my personal information.
