Rather, the allow the collection agencies to " verify '' a debt by simply looking at the account information and seeing the name on the account. When specific information is provided, the credit reporting agency has a duty to make sure that it actually " investigates '' that dispute, not just the name on the account. In this case, I disputed the charges, not the account. However, the credit reporting agency only required Midland Credit Management to verify the name on the account. This does not meet the requirements of the Fair Credit Reporting Act
