On XX/XX/XXXX, Santander charged a " Monthly Fee '' from XXXX to XXXX for a total of {$30.00} to my checking account. I called Santander on XXXX to dispute this charge because it's never happened before. I spoke to a representative that said they could do a " courtesy '' by waiving this fee but stated the reason was because I was required to hold a total of a {$20000.00} balance in order to avoid the fee. Considering I had a " {$0.00} '' balance since my last HELOC was satisfied in XXXX, a recurring monthly fee of {$30.00} was never charged to my account. I asked the representative if the criteria changed w/my checking account without me knowing. She said it did not, but proceeded to tell me the {$20000.00} requirement. She failed to answer my logical question on what happened for the past 5 years prior to using it again to pay on a PSL, and the fee was NEVER deducted. She said nothing changed, agreed to waive the {$30.00}, but then said, " now you have been informed of the requirement of holding a {$20000.00} balance to avoid future fees, {$30.00} will be the monthly fee ''. This is an outright UDAAP, and I told her so. This is EXTREMELY deceptive, and makes absolutely no sense, nor did the lack of assistance from the CSR I was dealing with. While she said she understood what I was asking, she continued to say nothing changed with my account ( if nothing changed, why was I never charged this fee before ), and " NOW THAT I KNOW THAT $ XXXX is required, as long as I don't hold that level of balance, I WILL BE CHARGED a $ 30 monthly fee ''. This is the comment that influenced this complaint submission.
