Consumer Narrative

I am writing to file a negligence and wrongful conduct complaint against Equifax. Equifax sent my dispute resolution to the person committing fraud against me, even after I sent the Equifax agent a picture of my driver 's license via their secure link they provided, with my address. Let me start from the beginning. On XX/XX/2021, I submitted an application to get pre-approved for a loan. The loan consultant found 4 collection accounts under my SSN with just Equifax, none of which belonged to me. With an average FICO score of XXXX, this had never happened to me, and I didn't know where to start. That same day I called Equifax directly, provided my SSN, and a picture of the front and back of my driver 's license through a direct and secure link the agent sent to my cell phone. He submitted the dispute over the phone, provided me with a confirmation number and said Equifax would mail me a resolution within 30 days. I waited and never received anything. On XX/XX/2021, forty-five days later, I called back, Equifax was having system issues and they showed me how I could pull some information online. Here I discovered Equifax had changed my last name and address. The previous 2 names showed my actual current married name and my maiden name ; under previous addresses, it showed my actual current address of 10 years and my correct previous address. This discovery helped me find the electronic letter of my dispute resolution showing Equifax mailed it to the person committing fraud against me with the incorrect address in my credit report. Which should have never happened, because my identity had to have been verified when the original agent collected my driver 's license information and saw that the names and address didn't match the current name and address. The process took longer and added additional stressors as I had to open different disputes to change my name and address back in order to file another dispute to remove the collection accounts. Three months and multiple phone calls later, Equifax deleted the collection accounts under my credit report. Though, I still feel like my personal information was violated by sending the person committing fraud against me a letter with my full birthdate, and the collections dispute information. I hope that this does not happen to anyone else. Having to fight against identity theft is a large burden, and the negligence of Equifax agents only worsens the situation.
