On XX/XX/2022 at XXXX, A representative for Equifax picked up my certified mailed letter for a collection placed on my credit report by a collection agency, XXXX , in which I requested an investigation on the validity of the account. On XXXX XXXX, I reached out to the original creditor, XXXX, to discuss the ownership and authority to collect the debt. XXXX stated they were the only ones who owned the debt and have authority to collect. The debt was closed out on XX/XX/XXXX with XXXX. On XX/XX/2022, Equifax mailed a report with Confirmation # XXXX, with the XXXX collection account listed as Customer Disputes the Account Information along with the status as Unpaid and a Balance of {$570.00} reporting. On XX/XX/2022, Equifax mailed a report with Confirmation # XXXX, with the XXXX collection account listed as Customer Disputes the Account Information along with the status as Unpaid and a Balance of {$570.00} reporting. As of today, XX/XX/2022, I never received any results that an investigation was completed. However, On XX/XX/2022, I did receive a notification from MY FICO Credit Monitoring that Equifax updated the XXXX collection account as Paid. Ironically, also on XX/XX/2022 at XXXX, my certified letter was delivered to Equifax inquiring why this inaccurate account was still on my credit report and why hasn't my request for an investigation been completed. I attempted one last time to communicate with Equifax regarding this matter before filing this complaint by calling to speak to a representative on today, XX/XX/2022. I explained my situation just as I have here and the representative 's reply to me was, " Do you want to open a dispute? '' I asked, " What happened to my request that you received on XX/XX/2022. '' The representative responded, " I don't know ma'am but if the furnisher reported this then it must be right. '' I told him that he was very unprofessional and per my rights ( 15 U.S.C. 1681e ( b ) ), you are required to make sure that items on my credit report are accurate and just because the collection agency ask for you to put something on my credit report does not mean that it is accurate. Also, per my rights ( 15 U.S.C.1681i ( a ) ( 1 ) ( A ), you are required to investigate any item that I request to have investigated on my credit report. '' He then apologized and asked, " Do you want to open a dispute? '' I then asked, why did you all decide to update my credit report after receiving my request to provide verification that an investigation was completed. The representative responded, " I see that you are refusing to open a dispute on this account. '' I told him, " No, I am not refusing to open a dispute and that I will be forwarding my complaint to the CFPB. '' Again, My request for an investigation was not completed. I have uploaded information to assist with my complaint. This is a direct violation of my FCRA rights.
