I tried to lock/freeze my credit reports with TransUnion in XXXX of 2021. I signed up for an account on TransUnion 's website to lock my credit report. Their website advertised free locking of credit reports. During the sign up process, I was asked to provide my credit card information, which I assumed was part of TransUnion 's verification process. TransUnion covertly subscribed me to their paid credit monitoring service. There was no clear indication that I would be signing up for this service. I did not receive any clear notice that I would be paying a monthly fee to TransUnion. I wanted to freeze/lock my credit report, which should have been available to me for free. I did not make any use of their paid credit monitoring service features. I was charged XXXX by TransUnion twice, first on XXXX XX/XX/2021 and then again on XXXX XX/XX/2021 before I recognized the new charges on my credit card and called in to talk to their customer support representatives. I was able to get the service canceled on their end but could not get a refund. TransUnion did provide a receipt to me via email on XXXX XX/XX/2021. However, they had sent me 5 emails on that day and I missed the receipt. My contention is that their sign up process for free locking/freezing of your credit port makes you sign up for their paid credit monitoring service and there was no clear checkout page, order confirmation page or anything that would be the norm for online checkouts that would indicate such a transaction has taken place.
