Consumer Narrative
I lost my job due to the pandemic. I was forced to file for bankruptcy because schools closed, and I could not work. Navy Federal did not take the time to talk to me or look at the entire picture before denying my loan application. I applied for a mortgage loan with Navy Federal Credit Union. Per my bankruptcy, I had to file for my credit card. However, before the pandemic, I had outstanding credit, and I never missed a payment with Navy Credit Union. In their denial letter, Navy Federal states the principal reason for my denial is " poor credit performance with Navy federal. '' They never mentioned my bankruptcy or poor payment history with any other creditor. I had a 100 percent perfect payment history for over ten years. I believe I'm being discriminated against because of my material status, and my income derives from a federal assistance program. I believe I qualify because I have a full-time job, my bankruptcy will be two years old on XX/XX/XXXX, and I've been preapproved by other companies. Also, this is a VA-backed loan.
