I am expecting my tax refund - I notified the bank that my account there at that bank was where my refund would be deposited. I was assured that it would be kept open for the refund to be deposited and less than 2 weeks after I filed my return with the account in question listed to receive the direct deposit of my tax refund- they closed my account. It was overdrawn by less than {$10.00} when they closed it. Prior to all of this I had requested that any debits to the account be declined to prevent any overdrafts to begin with. That request was obviously ignored. This has put me into dire financial hardship as I will now have to wait as many as 3 months for a paper check to arrive from the IRS. I called the bank, the call was directed to their overdrafts department, they escalated my issue and I spoke with what I was told was a bank Vice President. He told me to go to the bank first thing Monday morning ( this was a Friday ) and that a note would be put into my file to open another account that would be linked to the closed account so that my deposit wouldnt be rejected and sent back to the IRS. I went to the bank as instructed and they flatly told me no, they could not do that. They wouldnt even check to see if any such note was added to my file. I feel like I was lied to. The IRS wont let me change my direct deposit information since my return has already been accepted. I feel like Wells Fargo ( my bank ) needs to step up and do SOMETHING considering the circumstances and the fact that had they acted according to my wishes that the account never would have been closed to begin with because it wouldnt have been overdrawn. Thank you.
