At XXXX EST my mobile number received a text from XXXX that said : " Thanks for giving Capital One your mobile number. You XXXX get texts with important info about your account from XXXX or XXXX ( both these numbers were hyperlinks ). You also now have access to XXXX, your Capital One assistant. You can talk to XXXX by ending a text to XXXX ( hyperlink ). Reply HELP for more info. Reply STOP if you don't want to receive text messages from Capital One. Msg frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. I then called Capital One customer service number that I found via XXXX : XXXX. The first lady told me she had to transfer me when I told her about the text and possible fraud. The second representative I got, after I told him what was going on, insisted I provide my full SSN. I told him I was not comfortable with this since I have concersn about fraud. He then immediately told me he has to transfer me to another representative who can better handle my concern. The third representative asked for my first and last name then again asked for my full SSN. I again replied that due to being concerned about fraud I was not comfortable providing the full number and would not. He stated that the only way he could help me was if I provided the full number so I hung up. When I returned home I logged into my XXXX XXXX account to check for any new accounts opened in my name but found nothing. I believe this text message was a phishing attempt and that somehow the spoofed the Capital One customer service number.
