On the morning of Tuesday XX/XX/2022 I attempted to check rates via what was advertised as a soft credit pull with Amerisave home mortgage. There was an issue with the soft pull so I telephoned the help line and asked to reset the process so that I could try again online after I lifted a lock on one of my reports. The customer service person looked at the information and after a few minutes said he could look at the rates I requested and go over them with me. Unbeknownst to me he must have done a hard credit pull which is now showing up in my credit report. I believe that this is unfair and a bit dishonest as they mention several times that the initial credit pull is soft and would not affect my credit. I would never have requested a hard pull as we are in the process of closing on a home and this sort of inquiry could affect my underwriting process.
