Last week I stopped to buy a few food items at my XXXX XXXX in my neighborhood. I wrote a check to cover my items and included a cash back amount. Funds were in my account. However the cashier and her manager showed me the print out from Telecheck stating that my check was declined. For forty minutes I was embarrassed trying to rectify that I do not bounce checks. Everyone could see and hear me upset. I called my local bank but it was shortly after XXXX. I thought that someone could confirm that my funds were available. But the manager said that they could only take Telecheck XXXX confirmation and they could not override the denial. The manager asked me to write a second check for a lesser amount of cash back which I did. Again, Telecheck rejected the second check! The XXXX manager apologized and suggested I call Telecheck. Again, forty minutes is a long time to see strangers staring at you when you are trying to purchase just a few items-something from the hot bar for dinner, some coleslaw and water. It took over 15 minutes to get through a repeating, convoluted automated menu to get a live person on the phone. The Telecheck customer service representative denied that Telecheck was at fault and asked me to have the vendor resubmit my check. I told this person I could see the receipt and the message citing the Telecheck denial! A friend I had just been with for two doctor appointments was waiting this entire time in the car- I had no idea that I would be subjected to this type of treatment! And the company blamed the vendor! even as I saw the print out on both of the XXXX receipts! I have both of my rejected checks and one of the receipts. The manager explained she needed the first receipt to void out the transaction. I left embarrassed, angry and upset without my dinner and no water. Later I went to a private smaller local grocery store to get some water. The manager wished me good luck after she told me that she herself had suffered a false accusation by Telecheck that caused her serious problems. At that point I told her that I would be filing a formal complaint against Telecheck. I do not bounce checks. This denial was completely humiliating for me. Disgusting company that should not be allowed to soil peoples reputations and then lie about their behavior.
