Consumer Narrative
On XX/XX/2022 I submitted disputes for unknown inquiries on my report. They responded within 24 hours that the " Inquiries are a factual record of file access and will remain on the equifax credit file two years from the reported date of the inquiry. '' I would like to understand how they would be able to investigate and come to this conclusion in less than 24 hours. 15 U.S. Code 1681i ( A ) states : " Subject to subsection ( f ) and except as provided in subsection ( g ), if the completeness or accuracy of any item of information contained in a consumers file at a consumer reporting agency is disputed by the consumer and the consumer notifies the agency directly, or indirectly through a reseller, of such dispute, the agency shall, free of charge, conduct a reasonable reinvestigation to determine whether the disputed information is inaccurate and record the current status of the disputed information, or delete the item from the file in accordance with paragraph ( 5 ). '' I would not call this a reasonable and fair investigation. Failure to do this means that Equifax has broken the law.
