Consumer Narrative
I received multiple mailers and emails and messages in my established Capital One account saying I was eligible and qualified for a {$200.00} cash back bonus if I applied for their savor XXXX card. I made my decision to get the card based on this because money has not been very good the last few years and I figured I would increase my credit limit and also get some actual money back. It definitely advertised I would get the {$200.00} and I was given no warning it did not apply to me when they approved me for the card and no chance to decline the offer based on this. I needed to spend {$500.00} within the first three months of having the card and I did so. After 3 months went by and I did not receive the {$200.00} I had to call an email multiple times and finally I received an answer saying it was not included in my agreement and I agreed to it. I think it's really difficult to sift through all the fine print and notice something missing or something stating you're not getting something for the average credit card user who is not a lawyer. I think this is a bait and switch tactic and when I got on the call with the rewards center the guy told me he gets a lot of calls about this and so I said don't you guys think it's an issue if a lot of card holders are saying the same thing? And he agreed with me and he said he would forward the transcript but still I did not receive the cash back. No way to escalate it beyond them and no way to speak to a manager because of their arbitrary rules designed to make it difficult to hold them accountable for their false advertising. It just really seems like a bait and switch and false advertising. It said I was getting the bonus It seemed very clear I was getting it and then they did not warn me I would not be getting it and give me an opportunity to decline the offer. I think there should be some way too hold them accountable as right now I feel like there's not much else I am able to do.
