My name is XXXX XXXX XXXX and I am disputing a hard inquiry on my credit report. On the night of XXXX/XXXX/2022, my older brother, XXXX XXXX XXXX, applied for a credit card with XXXX XXXX online. Within seconds of his submission, I received a hard inquiry for the application instead of his which makes an effect on my credit score and report. There could be a mix up between our credit information with Equifax as both of our SSNs are almost identical except for the last number ( my guess for this situation to have occurred ). I placed a dispute with Equifax online that same night and received an update that their investigation was complete the next night on XXXX/XXXX/2022. The report they provided me was that the hard inquiry was accurate and that XXXX XXXX should clear up the information on their end or fix it with Equifax. However, I called XXXX XXXX today, XXXX/XXXX/2022, and was told that the information under my brothers account and application were correct and that my account and information were correct as well. We were able to verify our names and socials within XXXX XXXX system and found no error there. I was told by XXXX XXXX to reach out to Equifax again for the hard inquiry and to let them know that XXXX XXXX has the correct information and was verified by my brother and I. This hard inquiry does not belong to me and should be removed from my credit report. I still do not know how and why I received the hard inquiry when the application was all under my brothers information.
