Someone fraudulently opened up a Wells Fargo checking account under my name ( XX/XX/XXXX ). I immediately called Wells Fargo when I received a debit card from them out-of-the-blue in the mail. I told them I had never opened up a Wells Fargo checking account and they said they would report the fraud and close the account. The case number Wells Fargo provided to me was XXXX or XXXX ( there are two numbers ). I immediately put a freeze on my credit reports with all three credit agencies and ordered a report from XXXX as well. In XX/XX/XXXX, I received the XX/XX/XXXX bank statement from Wells Fargo. I called again and they assured me the checking account was closed. Today, XX/XX/XXXX, I received the XX/XX/XXXX bank statement, so they obviously have done nothing to close this bank account XXXX. We believe that Wells Fargo is acting fraudulently in keeping this account open so that their " open accounts number '' is inflated and thus their business looks better than it really is.
