Consumer Narrative
My XXXX and I applied to Loan Depot for a refinance on our investment property located in XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX. Prior to submitting the application we explained to XXXX XXXX XXXX that we no longer keep large summons of money in our bank accounts because XXXX of our accounts was hacked by XXXX. He assured us that the XXXX reserve would not be an issue. They would not need to see it until closing. We submitted all the documents required and when the loan was conditionally approved Loan Depot requested XXXX XXXX XXXX in reserve funds. My XXXX and I agreed that we would put the money in our account, but we were not comfortable leaving it there. XXXX XXXX XXXX then contacted us a few days later stating the loan had been restructured and the loan was approved without needing the reserve. I signed the final papers and sent a copy of my XXXX XXXX social security card. XXXX XXXX XXXX phoned me stating that no reserve was needed and that everything was ready for closing. Today we were notified by XXXX XXXX XXXX that they wanted XXXX XXXX XXXX reserve in a XXXX or an XXXX. We are both retired state and federal employees with pensions for the rest of our lives. We gave this company XXXX XXXX XXXX for an appraisal. Our property far exceeded the appraised value and we feel that it was a ploy to obtain our information which they will sell. Since giving our information to Loan Depot my XXXX has been receiving fraud detections on his credit cards which the banks have been able to help stop. We are very concerned that this was a scam from the beginning and that our personal information is now being compromised.
