On three separate occasions I have been given a VanillaGift giftcard. It advertises that it acts like a general purpose, but non-reloadable debit card. On all three occasions, the gift card balance had been removed shortly after my family member had purchased the card, but before I had received it, the balance was drained. Customer service is difficult to contact and set the expectation that I would not receive any money back, though they did initiate a 90 day dispute process. This pattern leads of drained balances leads me to believe the company may be either pocketing the money itself, or designing their product so poorly that it nearly guarantees theft.
