In XX/XX/2022, my checking account with XXXX XXXX was hacked. Thankfully, I caught this within minutes. My local brach stopped payment on the few transactions that had been initiated fraudulently, and I lost no money. However, shortly thereafter I received a letter from " TRS Recovery Services '' claiming to be collecting a bill of {$130.00} on behalf of XXXX that they claim was unpaid when my account closed. I owe no such bill to XXXX. Worried that the hacker may have used my checking account info to pay for ( a rather expensive ) XXXX ride, I even contacted XXXX to ask if they hire outside companies to collect debts on their behalf. XXXX replied to me that they do not hire outside companies, or TRS specifically, for their debt collections. Furthermore, if the payment to XXXX had been declined, XXXX would not have accepted the ride request and there would have been no money lost ( which is to say, no debt to collect. ) When I went on the TRS website to object to the debt, their website required me to enter a large amount of personal data, including data that could itself lead to identity fraud. They also requested me to provide them with information about the debt that they claim to be collecting - information they should have if the debt were actually real. Needless to say, I did not complete that form. All of this leads me to think that TRS is itself a fraudulent company.
