Consumer Narrative

On or about XX/XX/XXXX, I opened a checking account with Capital One in response to a promotion whereby if I had two direct deposits of {$250.00} or more within the first 75 days from opening the account, I would be credited with a bonus of {$150.00} no later than XX/XX/XXXX. I did not get the bonus and called. I was told this was because I had previously had a checking account with Capital One as of XX/XX/XXXX, and was therefore disqualified. I had no recollection of ever having such an account and checked my records. As I recall in XX/XX/XXXX I was looking for a new checking account to deposit checks by mail since my local banks were closed to walk in customers. I was only interested in checking accounts that provided postage paid pre-addressed envelopes since I do not like paying postage for deposits by mail. I reviewed a number of offers and called Capital One and asked specifically if Capital One provided postage prepaid self-addressed envelopes for deposits by mail. I was told that they did and opened an account. Shortly thereafter I was still reviewing new checking accounts online and saw that Capital One did not offer those postage prepaid envelopes. I therefore called Capital One and they confirmed they did not offer such envelopes. I told them to close the account since I had been misled. I never made deposits to the Capital One checking account, nor ordered checks, nor did any transactions. I hardly think this qualifies as having a Capital One account especially since the opening was procured by fraud. That is, I would never have opened the account had I known they did not offer postage prepaid envelopes. Regarding the bonus offer for {$150.00}, I came to Capital One in good faith and fulfilled the requirements and should be rewarded with the {$150.00}. I have been a satisfied customer until they reneged on the offer.
