On Tuesday, XXXX XXXX, American Express mistakenly took ~ {$3700.00} from my checking account, overdrawing my account, via an Autopay feature which was set for payment of my full balance, not my minimum payment as I had intended. I called American Express to inform them of the issue and was told I should call my bank to have them reject the payment. I made my intent clear to pay the minimum amount when my payment due date arrived. Long story short, it took one full business day for the rejection to appear on my account, leaving me unable to access money for that day. On Friday, XXXX XXXX, American Express again took the same amount from my Checking account. I called my bank immediately to have them reject the payment, but again, this " Autopay '' overdrew my checking account after it had already been rejected for insufficient funds AND after being on the phone with Amex representatives three days ago making my situation very clear. It is Friday, and I am now entering one of the few weekends left before the holiday with a negative balance on my checking account and no ability to spend money. Through this nightmare, American Express either refused or was unable to provide a way to stop this " Autopay '' from taking a massive money from my account a second time, and when I asked if they were suggesting this will happen again next week, they said they had no choice but to " let it happen and tell [ my ] bank to reject it. '' Meanwhile, Amex will have charged THREE repayment fees to my American Express card. Is this XXXX? It feels like it!
