Details : On XXXX XX/XX/XXXX, our neighborhood mailboxes were broken into/damaged and mail was stolen. The mailboxes were not fully repaired until the 3rd week of XX/XX/XXXX. I was under the impression that the last payment that I made to Honda Financial Services for my car loan was made in XX/XX/XXXX. I found out later that I had one more payment left but that was after my automatic payments had stopped. Honda sent out a XXXX statement that I did not received due to the mail theft. They mailed another letter alerting me of the last payment that had not been made ( printed on XXXX XXXX and mailed around that time ). I also did not receive that letter until XXXX XXXX, exactly on the XXXX day of being late. I made that payment to XXXX that very day. Because I made the payment on XXXX day, it was considered late and was reported to the credit companies. Circumstance Beyond My Control : Until our mailbox was repaired, we had to go to the local post office to pick up our mail and due to the ongoing local COVID-19 restrictions at the time and to minimize potential exposure ( I have XXXX parents and XXXX at home ) I was only able to make trips to the Post Office every 1.5-2 weeks. I sent an appeal letter to Honda detailing the extenuating circumstances beyond my control and provided the police report as evidence of the mailbox theft/destruction. They provided a timely response denying my request to remove the late payments from my credit. I tried calling them to get details about the investigation and to understand why they did not consider the circumstances beyond my control, but was unsuccessful in getting any information. Before this incident, I had excellent credit without having a single late payment on my multiple credit/mortgage/auto loans that clearly show this was a one-time event due to circumstances beyond my control in a challenging COVID environment. This single late payment dropped my score 90+ points.
