Consumer Narrative

I purchased a XXXX XXXX XXXX from XXXX of XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX for the sale price of {$18000.00} I put {$3000.00} for a down payment and financed {$17000.00} through Global Lending Services. This would make my monthly payments roughly {$500.00}, to which I agreed to pay. According to their records I missed my payment for XXXX. I put {$3000.00} down which would have been my payment. They also show that I missed my payment in XXXX, this too is incorrect. COVID-19 hit the US in XXXX and I lost my job, I reached out to them and received a 1 month exception that allowed me to miss the payment and it would be added to the end of my loan. I made the next few payments but then after being out of work for a prolonged period of time I began to struggle financially. When XXXX came I was behind 2 payments, or {$1000.00}. On XXXX XXXX I was t-boned by someone who ran a stop sign. I had my car towed to a body shop to get an estimate on repairs. A few days later the insurance company would take possession of the XXXX and deem it a total loss. While the investigation into the crash was ongoing, I made my XXXX payment as scheduled. After the investigation was concluded Global Lending Services was issued at check for {$14000.00} on XX/XX/XXXX by XXXX XXXX XXXX. Assuming they received the check a few days later in XXXX wouldn't that count as a payment? Also I didn't have the car I shouldn't have to pay for something I don't have, right? GLS continued to hold me responsible for the XXXX until they wrote off the account in XXXX. Because of this my XXXX insurance only paid {$370.00}. I still don't know why the account was closed so quickly without getting the chance to pay it off. I'm not disputing that I owe for those missed payments but they are saying I owe {$3800.00}, which is more than double what I think it should be. I have written them trying to get some explanation and all they did was send me a copy of my payment schedule that shows I missed XXXX and XXXX. But like I said I didn't have the car and they were issued a check for it.
