Consumer Narrative
Was requesting copies of my credit report from XXXX, XXXX, and TransUnion for XX/XX/XXXX. Usually I request them online from the XXXX website. I have had some problems requesting all three at the same visit from this website so for my most recent visit when I started encountering problems, I submitted a completed printed XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX and sent it to the address on the form for XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX in XXXX. I received a postcard from TransUnion with a " date issued '' printed on it of XX/XX/XXXX. I received this postcard XX/XX/XXXX. The note states that their records show that I have received my free annual credit report from TransUnion within the past 12 months and that if I'd like to buy and additional credit report for {$11.00} from them, I can to online to disclosure.transunion.com or call them at XXXX. I called their number today to ask why they are sending a postcard telling me I have to purchase my credit report after having received a free one from them in the past year. After talking to the first one individual at this number- I am supposed to be receiving my current TransUnion credit report from them by mail at no cost. But, I was transferred to another representative who really couldn't answer my questions or explain why they are sending out these post cards. I terminated the call when it became apparent it was unlikely I'd get any legitimate explanation of why they are sending out a notice of having to purchase a TransUnion credit report right now after having received a free one within the past year. There appears to be a problem here, since we are supposed to be receiving access to our credit reports for free every 7 days until XX/XX/XXXX. I wanted to make you aware of this in the event other members of the public are also receiving post cards from TransUnion indicating that to obtain more than 1 free credit report a year, they are to pay for it - even though that currently does not apply. I can provide a copy of the post card if you would like although it does contain my TransUnion request file number on it which they use for reference.
