Consumer Narrative

I am a 100 % XXXX veteran on a fixed Veteran 's XXXX compensation. My monthly income from my VA XXXX is approximately {$3000.00}. I have additional monthly requirements to pay out of that amount including my car payment ( {$210.00} ) and insurance ( ~ {$200.00} ), credit card payments ( ~ {$500.00} ), shared rent/utilities ( {$1500.00} ). Around early XX/XX/2019, I was approached about a potential business opportunity that required I put in {$2500.00} as a " partner '' to cover the start-up expenses like filing the business documents with the State of California and the local government. This money wasn't readily available to me so I went to " Aspen Direct '' online to see if I could get a loan. I provided my income and debt statements ( above ) to the processor. They said they could approve the amount- {$2500.00} - at 130.93 % interest. I did not understand what that meant but because I was trying to participate in this business, I signed the contract. I made all of the payments on-time and out of my personal XXXX funds. Approximately six months later. I received a notification that I could increase the loan principal if needed. Because of the situation with the " business '' I was trying to participate in, I accepted the offer and took out the additional amount still not understanding what the interest would mean as far as a repayment. I was paying these loans out of my personal fixed finances until the business was able to take-over the repayment. At that time, I called Aspen Financial to change the payment account to the business and authorized auto-pay. As a result of COVID-19, I was unable to make payments. I called Aspen Financial to request a deferment citing that I was financially impacted as a result of COVID-19. They would not provide any allowances for non-payment with a COVID-19 excuse. I repeatedly explained that I was on a fixed income and that my " business '' had suffered directly as a result of COVID-19 closures but they insisted that it be repaid immediately. I made multiple attempts to work with Aspen Financial but they have not worked with me in any capacity. I've previously requested a copy of my payments vs balance only to be told it's not available. They have now reported this to the credit bureaus as a " serious delinquency '' and a collection XXXX days.
