Consumer Narrative
On XX/XX/XXXX, I made a {$240.00} payment to First Progress MC for a " secured '' credit card. It was a {$200.00} deposit into the account and the {$49.00} membership fee. I made one purchase with this card on XX/XX/XXXX and paid the balance in full the next day. The company only takes Bill Pay so I setup a bill payment account with my bank account at that time and made the payment. It took 21 days ( 3 weeks ) for the payment to post to my credit card account. I decided then that I would not use the card anymore because the payment takes too long to post. So, I put the card up and did not use it. I knew, however, that the {$49.00} annual fee would be due soon, but I was not worried about it because I was expecting to get the statement in the mail. Today, XX/XX/XXXX, I received a First Progress statement in the mail. This is the ONLY statement that I have received this year and my balance is {$110.00}. The company billed {$49.00} on XX/XX/XXXX for the membership fee, {$29.00} on XX/XX/XXXX for a late charge and {$40.00} on XX/XX/XXXX for an additional late charge for a total billed amount due of {$110.00}. I WAS LIVID!! I called First Progress and asked for a supervisor. So, XXXX ID # XXXX, gets on the phone and tells me that the company has mailed me sixteen statements beginning on XX/XX/XXXX. I told XXXX that I received that statement, but I have not received a statement since XX/XX/XXXX. Then XXXX tells me it is not his company 's fault that I did not get my statements and that there must be a problem with the mail delivery. I told XXXX that I received ALL my other bills in the mail this year, but I can not understand why I have not received one statement from First Progress until my account is past due. I assured him that I have not received any statements and can easily prove it. I signed up for the USPS Informed Delivery service- the post office creates images of the mail for that day and then emails the images to me each and every day there is mail service. There are NO images of any First Progress statements, except the one that I received today. I depend on receiving my bills in the mail and email so that I can remember when to pay them. And paying the {$49.00} is not the problem... the problem is that First Progress has not mailed any statements to me. XXXX then tells me that I would not receive a statement and it is my responsibility to pay my bills. I asked him then why did he tell me that XXXX statements have been mailed to me? And why does the company offer " Paperless '' Statements? Of course, he got smart. I told him that I was reporting this because whatever they are doing is a fraudulent business practice.
