Please see attached documentation to Hyundai. In summary, I paid for a lease in full when first receiving the vehicle, therefore I had zero payments for 3 years. When I turned in the vehicle, the representative said that I did NOT owe anything else. Then, 9 months later, I received a letter from Hyundai saying that I owed a turn-in fee because I did not get a new Hyundai when turning in the lease. I promptly contacted Hyundai and explained that I was not offered that option, but more importantly, the fee was already paid and clearly itemized on the initial lease agreement. They refused to acknowledge this, so I asked to speak to a supervisor to further resolve the issue- the representative refused to allow me to speak to a supervisor. Therefore, as a last option to clear the record, I submitted a dispute through the credit reporting agencies. They simply asked Hyundai to confirm the accuracy, as they of course did. So the credit agencies did not take any further action and allowed Hyundai to continue adding derogatory remarks to my credit file. I have decades of immaculate credit history with zero blemishes aside from this one. So this is not a case of the consumer making excuses- I am very good with credit. This is an issue of a company taking advantage of the consumer, and I suspect it is to squeeze more money out of the consumer to help Hyundai through the losses experienced during the pandemic. But perhaps the biggest crime here is that the credit agencies only take the word of the creditor and give no consideration to my word ( backed-up with a clean XXXX credit score ) and a lease agreement as documentation. As a consumer, I am helpless against Hyundai destroying my credit score. This is causing me damage when trying to refinance my home at a lower rate and also secure financing for my XXXX.
