My vehicle was stolen around a year ago and the auto loan was paid for by my insurance company. I was given a final settlement amount, which i paid in full, and then was told that this account is closed and complete. I later noticed that this account was destroying my credit score as the account was listed with 2 charged off payments in the months following the theft ( XX/XX/XXXX./XX/XX/XXXX. 2020 ). I contacted the loan company many times ( 20-30 times by phone ) and was transferred, hung up on, and many of the people I talked to were confused by my complaint. Finally, I reached someone who understood and would look into it. They later found out that there was a mistake on their end and they told me they'd fix the issue and send an updated report to the credit bureaus to fix my credit score. They also sent me documentation to show that the account should be closed in good standing ( no charged off payments ). This was months ago and my credit report has still not been updated/fixed even after multiple disputes with the credit bureaus and follow ups with the loan company. This has caused me to not be able to purchase another vehicle and have to push off buying my first house this year.
