Received 'Fraud Letter ' on XX/XX/XXXX on three Cap One accounts. Nothing in the letter detailed fraud. Upon calling, they closed all three accounts because one of them had a returned payment. Even though this payment was immediately remade and cleared, they still closed three accounts. They did not attempt to communicate with me before taking this action. Two of the accounts had been open for 18 years! The one with the returned payment had a large cash back balance that had not been redeemend. In researching this online, it appears Capital One has a history of closing accounts for little or no reason when they have a significant unused rewards/cash back balance. This is not fair or reasoanable. Closing all three acounts over one of them having a typo in a payment that was immediately resolved was not fair or reasonable. As I have applied for Mortgage approval based on these accounts being valid, this is a disaster. This will destroy my credit and likely cost me a ton in a higher interest rate. The suggetion to 'open a new account ' will not help as that also would blow up the mortgage application.
