I have been paying to have my credit file as well as my wife 's credit file frozen for about XXXX to XXXX years or more. I did the same with for the other XXXX credit reporting agencies as well. Initially, the only way to get a freeze from Equifax was to pay as part of a monitoring program. Which I have done since I starting blocking my credit information. As it turns out the law changed in I think XXXX which would have rendered the services I was receiving from Equifax to now be available as a free service. On, XX/XX/XXXX, I contacted because my wife received a notice that they had cancelled her credit service. I eventually ended up speaking to a supervisor from at XXXX named XXXX or at at least that is what he told me. Anyway, after informing them of the fact that the only thing I needed from this service was to freeze my credit and monitoring, XXXX offered me a new product that was cheaper than what I was currently paying ( i.e. $ XXXX & $ XXXX ). The new product was only going to cost me $ XXXX. what a deal. Well the problem is, XXXX should have simply told me that I could be getting that service for free. I didn't discover this until I investigated more as you will see the date on the Consumer Financial site I found. I have been paying all these years for a service that was available for FREE and I was never offered to change!
