Consumer Narrative

Someone named XXXX XXXX randomly emailed me on XX/XX/XXXX stating, " This is to advise the above subject account is scheduled to be reported to the 3 National Credit Bureaus on or before XX/XX/XXXX. There is still time to resolve the balance prior to reporting. Please call me by Friday XX/XX/XXXX so we may discuss available options. '' The email subject was part of the name of an apartment complex I lived in and moved out of three years ago. The apartment complex is horrible with communication and paperwork so I assumed this was a scam and tried calling them multiple times but never heard back. I received an email from XXXX XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX stating my credit score dropped. I took a look and this company is claiming I owe over $ XXXX ( according to XXXX XXXX. The only information I have is based on assumptions. ). I've literally never paid rent late in my life and don't owe anyone any money. I'd never heard of this company and had never received anything indicating I was past due with any accounts associated with my time living at that apartment complex ( because I don't owe them money ). I have a signed agreement from XX/XX/XXXX releasing me from any future liability with that apartment. The email I received was the first I ever heard anything about a claim to owe money ; the communication failed to state what it's in relation to, who XXXX was working for or with, the amount thought to be owed, or my rights to dispute the supposed debt. I don't know if she even knew my name- the email showed no indication this was actually meant for me. All of that is in direct violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. I don't even know what this supposed debt is related to. All I know for certain is the subject of the email was part of the name of a former apartment complex I moved out of three years ago.
