I had a car loan with XXXX XXXX XXXX but the car and the responsibility for payment was awarded to my ex wife in the divorce. When it became known to me that the payments were in default and collection activities had began i called in to report the location of the vehicle so that they could pick it up before any damage was done. I was told that i could not make any changes to the account in any way since i was not a member of the credit union. The account access was given to my ex wife only who had moved without reporting her address. Several months passed before they would talk to me about the account outside of demanding payments. I assisted in the collection of the vehicle even though the court specifically stated i had no further responsibility for it or any debt associated with it. They collected the vehicle and keys voluntarily and sold the vehicle but was not able to get the value for it because it had body damage at this point and had depreciated over the course of the year it took me to get it for them. They then demanded the rest of the loan balance from me and i submitted the divorce decree. I also paid for credit repair to help clear things up after the divorce. They just wrote it off as bad debt and let it sit in my credit for years. My ex wife has since claim bankruptcy and this should have been on it.
