Consumer Narrative
On Wednesday, XX/XX/2021, at XXXX EST, I received another phone call from Willams & Fudge at XXXX. I had been receiving calls from this number over two weeks at least three times a day or more. I answered twice when the calls initially began, but the caller hung up, therefore I stopped answering thinking it was just another telemarketing company. When I answered this day, the representative spoke so quickly that I did not have a chance to collect his name, nor did he mention his representative ID/badge information. The rep mentioned the that the call was on a recorded line and that this was an attempt to collect a debt on behalf of a local college. The rep proceeded to ask how I would be taking care of the balance without asking if I were able to, nor offering any type of payment plans. He failed to initially ask if I agreed to the debt and my right to dispute or request debt verification. I mentioned that I would be unable to pay for anything at the moment as I am presently unemployed. The rep became intrusive and asked, " well, who is taking care of your expenses then? ". I respectfully stated that that information was none of his concern nor did it have anything to do with the reason for his call and to please take my number off the call list. The rep proceeded to say these words, " well, the calls are not going to stop '', and at that moment I told him that I knew my rights as a consumer in the state of Georgia. The rep replied that he would make note of my request. The mere fact that he boldly stated that " the calls would not stop '' immediately suggested harassment. Also, the fact that he asked " who was taking care of my expenses '' had now become an unconstitutional act towards my rights to privacy. He, and other representatives of Williams & Fudge, should receive more training on proper phone etiquette as well as keep in mind that consumers still do have rights and ethically speaking, we are still experiencing pandemic overlay.
