I received a letter from this company who is collecting a balance owed to XXXX XXXX back in XXXX. When the first representative called me I told her the balance was inaccurate as I had gotten a policy with another agency. She gave me the information to submit my new policy cards so they could get me an updated bill. Between XXXX we repeated this process many times and eventually they got the information and in XXXX updated the bill in my favor. In XXXX they reported me to the credit bureaus which damaged my credit. I didn't even have the opportunity to address this directly with XXXX OR with them. The collections company called many times without leaving messages. Today I called them back because I had free time. I told them I was going to pay XXXX directly and the representative told me I needed to pay them instead so they can update the credit bureaus. The snide gentleman told me that they would not be deleting my information and instead would list it as paid in full. I asked for a supervisor and this gentleman proclaimed that " they will simply tell you what I've told you '' ( very rude ). His supervisor joined the call and I explained the situation and she tried throwing out buzz words like FCRA like I'm some XXXX who doesn't know how credit reporting works. I told her from my perspective there is no benefit to paying in full if they aren't going to correct my credit report and remove the entry since their file started with bad information to begin with. This lady then proceeds to tell me that based on the original file they had what they believed to be the right information and were well within their rights to report me to the credit bureaus. I don't know how this company does business but this is ridiculous. First of all I barely had a few days notice between the time the amount was CORRECTED and the time they reported me. Secondly the bill came from XXXX before it came from them with the CORRECTED amount. They need to do the right thing and update my credit file this is having a direct impact on my ability to obtain credit.
