I contacted the Navy Federal Credit Union after the denial of a VA home loan. The VA does not set a hard and fast rule on a credit score. If you are a veteran you are entitled to a VA home loan. The scores of XXXX is what would normally be for FHA or conventional loan. There should be no discrimination on a veteran because they do not have a credit score of a particular number. I was told by the lender it was because of my credit score. I have other pre-approvals by other lenders but Navy Federal has lied and said I need a certain score. The VA does not discriminate. I have money in the bank and my debt to income ratio is awesome. I have a few OLD blemishes on my credit but have a score of XXXX should not be grounds for denial. I have multiple accounts with Navy Federal as well as credit cards. I feel like I am being pushed out of a VA home loan because they don't want to offer such great benefits that a 100 % XXXX veteran is entitled to.
