I have in my possession a Deposit Certificate with an automatic renewal provision for {$10000.00} not including interest from Wells Fargo Bank ( WFB ) and they refuse to accept it. At first they said it was escheated to the State of California. I have since proved they did not. Now they say they have no records of the investment because the account was closed due to inactivity/dormancy. The document does NOT have a statement that it becomes invalid after a period of time but does have an Automatic Renewal Provision. Since the document has an item number that is 13 digits long and WFB is computerized, I find it a very weak argument that they can not find it. WFB took {$10000.00} and promised to give it back with interest upon demand. They are now saying they are going to keep it. This is wrong. There is a case number assigned and a reference number assigned. We have exchanged several e-mails but their stance appears to be that they do not keep old records so they refuse to honor the Deposit Certificate.
