I received an unusual text from National Recovery Agency about a debt with a Maryland utility company, XXXX. I had never heard of National Recovery Agency and I have never received a text message in place of a letter from a collection agency, with a link to pay processing fees in addition to the amount owed. A few hours later, I received a call from the original debt collector, XXXX, who had no knowledge of or connection to National Recovery Agency. Fearful of a scam, I contacted XXXX directly and took care of the balance. I then called National Recovery Agency and spoke to a XXXX XXXX. I explained what happened and asked to be removed from their list. I explained that I didnt know if their tactics were legal, but that I no longer wanted to be contacted by them. XXXX XXXX became belligerent, and abusive, telling me that I only called to argue and then she abruptly hung up on me. This behavior, in total, is unacceptable.
