On XX/XX/XXXX I attempted to pay off my private XXXX XXXX loan. I have been struggling with payments through covid but came into money and this was the first thing I attempted to pay. I have an old email on file ( and this loan is still in my maiden name from almost 10 years ago ) I received a confirmation on the webpage that the payment had processed. They emailed me saying it actually was declined. My account had way more in it, so no reason for my bank to decline. I check my old college email about once per month so assuming I was ok I did not check again. When I checked my old email on XX/XX/XXXX I found something saying I would be in default today XXXX. I immediately called them right when they opened to pay again but was told " nothing they could do. '' And that I had to go through collections. They harassed me about not checking my email sooner and said it was final and I would have to take the hit on my credit. I was told that I had " accessed my account multiple times through XXXX since the payment '' THIS IS NOT TRUE. I was told " maybe your co signer accessed it. She has XXXX and is in a home so .... Also NOT TRUE. I began to get upset at this blatant inaccuracy and tried to explain but I was told I am simply wrong and there is nothing I can do. My account is currently locked and I can't access anything without a password reset or speaking to a representative. So how could I have checked? All I want to do is pay this loan off which has been ruining my life since college but they refuse to help me unless I go through collections which will ruin my credit.
