Consumer Narrative
I have been a loyal customer of XXXX since XXXX when we purchased our first home and even re-finance our loan with them first time around in XXXX. Back in XXXX we wanted to take advantage of the lower rates and apply with XXXX again to refinance our loan, only to be denied. ( we have never been denied credit before ). We went ahead and contacted another lender who was not only willing to work with us, but got us approved for a significant lower rate. Regardless of the hardship that Covid-19 imposed on most of us, we have never been behind our mortgage payments nor been behind them, ever, and we work hard on maintaining our credit between very good and excellent since our business depends on it. I'm a XXXX XXXX XXXX and every credit decision lenders, suppliers, and potential customers make are based mainly on my personal credit. After being told by my new lender that the new loan would close by the end of XXXX, I requested a off statement to confirm the amount my new lender was telling me on XX/XX/XXXX. That amount included all taxes, interest and principal owed till XX/XX/XXXX. For reasons beyond my control, the pay-off to XXXX was effective on XX/XX/XXXX for the full loan amount, but to my surprise, XXXX has reported me to the credit bureau the day before, Sunday XX/XX/XXXX for Late Payment, impacting my credit score tremendously. The same Monday XX/XX/XXXX I contacted XXXX to inquire about this misunderstanding, and after an hour on the phone, XXXX stated they will contact the credit bureaus via letter and copy me to have the issue corrected. After not receiving any letter from XXXX nor seeing any improvement in my credit, I contacted XXXX again today to inquire on the status of the letter and the removal of the negative reporting only to be told that more information was needed from the 3rd party first to remove the derogatory mark ( without ever notifying me what was needed nor when ) and later on after 35 minutes waiting for a " supervisor '', I was rudely told that she can't lie to the credit bureaus and the derogatory mark can not be changed. ( even after 7 years of loyal exceptional payment history ) After contacting XXXX and equifax, I'm reaching out to you to help us in this uncomfortable and very unfair situation I've been placed on. I'm a hard-working person that has several families depending on our small business and I don't believe this multi-billion company, XXXX that is, or its " customer service '' reps understand the magnitude of the impact a simple wrong reporting could cause. Thank you in advance.
