Simpson Law Firm, a law firm who I do not know anything about has placed a lien on my mortgage title. I am in the process of refinancing my mortgage. You see my wife passed away on XXXX XXXX. She was halfway into her bankruptcy before she lost the battle with XXXX XXXX. I found out while refinancing our home to take advantage of the equity that has accumulated to help pay for my children college expenses and home improvements that this law firm has a {$5000.00} lien on a debt they said that my wife owed. They arbitrarily listed this on a document to my mortgage banker. They included my name as the spouse. Now they are trying to say that I am responsible for the debt. No one has called or reached out to notify me of this circumstance in almost a year. Furthermore, how can they try to put a lien on my house title without notifying me. This is not right. Please advise. Thanks.
