My employees had given me a {$50.00} XXXX ( TD Bank ) gift card for my birthday. I never used it ( it even still has the sticker on it that needs to be removed before use ). I found it in a box with other gift cards in XXXX during COVID and realized that it expired XX/XX/XXXX. I wasnt going out or spending much money in XXXX due to the pandemic and not working, and I knew that I could have the money put on a new card. I phoned the number on the card yesterday, finally ready to begin to go out again, to ask about having the balance ( {$50.00} ) put on a new card. I was told that the card was registered in XXXX ( I have no way of knowing that ), that the card has been closed, has no value, and that I should throw it away. The card does NOT list NJ, where I live, as one of the states that has a monthly inactivity fee. It says on the back of the card that the funds do not expire. It also says, You can request a replacement card at no charge, following the Good Thru date if there is a remaining balance. Does it make sense that the unused card has no value?
