Equifax changed my first and middle name without a request from me or my permission. I have never changed my name nor do I use aliases. They had a data breach in 2017 which appears to have resulted in mixing my file with another consumer 's file. I first found out when I had to pay a double deposit to rent an apartment, something I've never had to do. Following this, I requested a copy of my credit report that included this other consumer 's SSN, date of birth and first name. His debt with XXXX XXXX still presently shows on my Equifax credit profile for {$250.00}. I confirmed the debt belongs to this person with both XXXX XXXX aka Spectrum XXXX my current cable/internet provider ) and the collection agency holding the debt, XXXX. XXXX confirmed the debt showing and the name are from Alabama, a place I've never lived. I've called Equifax on more than 40 occasions to correct their records without any assistance and repeatedly refusing me information about when the changes occurred and how. They've also told me a creditor can change my bureau information without my consent, which I think shouldn't be allowed, especially since they refuse to disclose who did it and when. On my last call with them, one of their agents confirmed having a copy of my SSN card and and TX license on file since 2017 but refusing to use them to correct my name in their system. The debt in this person 's name has resulted in higher interest rates and paying more for credit. They've also not correctly handled the disputes for the erroneous debt showing on my credit. Whenever XXXX attempts to correct the information, they encounter the name issue and assume accuracy. I'm at my wits end. Equifax is the only bureau showing my name this way. Consequently, my score with Equifax is 20 points lower than all other bureaus.
